2020 Mileage Club hits 250,000 miles!

Listen to Amy Nieuwenhuis (Teacher and Mileage Club Leader) tell us about her Mileage Club reaching a huge Milestone.

First Day of Mileage Club!

We started "Checkpoint Charlie" in 2003. Our Champion had 30 miles and we had 1,800 miles as an entire school. After 2 years, we switched the name to Mileage Club. We run our program 2 days a week all year long. Some winters are tough with ice and indoor days.

Our top runner through the years was our only girl champion with 138 miles. The best school run "total miles" we've had in a year was 25,000!

"Last week we hit a huge milestone of 250,000 miles. That's more miles than the Earth is away from the moon! It's also more than 10 trips around the earth at the Equator! We started our celebration with congratulatory videos from a couple of our former champions. We will continue to celebrate Friday with some brownies at lunch on Friday, play mileage club themed music in the cafeteria at lunch, balloons and our mascot, The Bulldog will make an appearance! So proud of all of my kids throughout the years!

Even Grandparents joined us!

"We also allow our school families to join us on our Mileage Club days. We have parents, grandparents, aunts, bus drivers and baby sitters come and walk with our kiddos. We had a set of grandparents who collectively walked over 100 miles one year! We've had some grandparents make such great bonds with kids, in addition to their own grandkids that they stick around extra years and become surrogate grandparents for some of our kids.

Thanks so much, thanks for letting us spread our joy about Mileage Club!!!

Thank you to Fitness Finders for being a huge part of motivation for our groups!
